Step 1: Take this clinical sentence: ‘The patient demonstrated orthostatic hypotension with associated
presyncope upon postural transition from recumbent to erect positioning.’
Step 2: Enter it into an AI tool (ChatGPT, Claude, etc.) with this prompt:
‘Rewrite this for a patient reading at a 7th-grade level. Use plain language.
Focus on what the patient feels, not the clinical description.’
Step 3: Take the AI output and rewrite it AGAIN yourself — in your own voice.
Compare all three versions. Note what the AI got right, and what only you — as a clinician
who understands the patient experience — could add.
